One of the most notible silent film actors was Rodolfo Valentino. Known as the “Latin Lover”, he lived a very extravagant lifestyle. One such extravagance was his jewellery, especially his sapphire ring.
The ring had a green sapphire set in a platinum. The face of the sapphire has an intaglio image of a battle scene. Valentino can be seen wearing this ring in The Eagle (United Artists, 1925), A Sainted Devil (Paramount, 1924) and Cobra (Paramount Pictures, 1925). The ring was put up for auction with an estimated value or $!%,000-$20,000. It was sold for $18,750.
